A Magician’s Journal

Introduction. I thought it might be interesting to present the purely magical practices I do since I include descriptions such as these anyway in my own magical journal.

I also list the most recent evocation at the beginning. Since I started this particular journal on 4/3/2000, this oldest entry is listed last.

4/25/2000. Emvatibe, the Head of the Fourth Lunar Mansion

Note. These next three pages were written during the two hours in which I meditated with Emvatibe.

Ascending first into the Earthzone.

As I meditate today, the akasha of the earthzone is very psychic and sensitive. But there is still this aspect which is practical and urgent. It is like it is saying, “Let’s get something done. Let’s accomplish something.”

At the same time, I get this sense of Losimon, a spirit in Cancer who teaches about the history of religions and initiations in past ages. I have an image of a man carrying torches and wearing a mask who is initiating children ages ago. With this image is a feeling of compassion and sympathy for the struggle of life, for all the sacrifice which has occurred as we as a race have worked to build civilization and to stay alive. The path of life for humanity has indeed involved great suffering and tragedy but also it is surrounded by immense beauty and the wonder that is within us has barely been seen it is so great and awesome.

Being here in akasha is a little like being able to look back in time and perceive through the senses of anyone who has ever been alive one earth. As I think different thoughts or as different images enter my mind, I automatically recall or relive an experience with someone in history who has felt that experience in the same way. It would seem that human experience is part of a collective treasury. It is completely open for individuals to draw up to enrich their understanding of life on earth.

Lunar Zone.

With the earthzone, there is this drive for spirit to manifest on the physical plane. With the lunar zone, that drive is not present. In place of the theme to materialize some purpose, the lunar zone emphasizes a oneness of space and time. The past and future are interwoven. Purposes begin with needs, desires, dreams, and ideals and are one day satisfied and fulfilled within the earthzone. But the lunar zone senses that the desire and the satisfaction, the purpose and its fulfillment are a part of each other and already joined within the akasha of the lunar zone. If you suspend time, then you already feel completed. If you enter a dream fully, then you already embody the life of that dream within yourself.

There is obviously a real trick to understanding the lunar zone. This vibration I am sitting within has no need to be practical or intense about trying to accomplish a purpose in the world because it already is within a state of complete enlightenment. It is already complete within itself.

But you would not want to assume that the lunar vibration is inactive, inattentive, or lacking in strength and virility. You would never want to cross swords with this energy. It has already crossed an abyss of despair, nightmare, and suffering and so now exists within a state of perfect peace--and all dues have already been paid. You can not find any weakness within it.

It may not seem like it is engaged in productive work due to its being so serene, but the work this vibration accomplishes proceeds from an inner vision which is totally real and more powerful than anything which opposes it. The lunar vibration may not seem down to earth. In fact, it seems otherworldly. But the lunar vibration has the wealth of all the other planets available to fulfill its purposes.

The great advantage of embodying such an absolutely outrageous sense of inner peace and detachment is that when you look at your life, you immediately see what is worth doing and what you wish to avoid doing. Consequently, everything you do results in building up your strength and sustaining a feeling of being in harmony with the universe.

#4, Emvatibe--the Head of the Fourth Lunar Mansion. Magical protection.

Emvatibe’s Domain. The lunar zone is analogous to the second chakra in human beings. The second chakra relates to sex, sensuality, satisfaction, contentment, serenity, etc. Individuals with strong second chakras, similar to lunar spirits, are very independent. They know intuitively what they like and do not like without having to think about it. And they hate being interfered with. Their independence means they are highly protective of their own space.

Emvatible’s domain in the lunar akasha is fiercely protective and openly hostile to any malicious intentions. It destroys those who have a desire to destroy. This is reminiscent of a saying by Krishna, “I have entered the world to destroy the destroyers.” Krishna is the avatar in Hindu mythology of Vishna--the preserver of the world. And in Hindu yoga he presides over the second chakra.

Franz Bardon describes Emvatibe as knowing someone’s malicious intentions even at the moment when they are formulated. Krishna in the Mahabarata was like that. In a great conflict, Krishna was trying to avoid war and work toward peace. He went around before the war and talked to the principle parties in the conflict. He discussed with them and also revealed to them their innermost desires. But he was also completely transcendent. He saw the ending from the beginning. At the beginning of the final battle and standing in the midst of the battlefield, he pauses and reveals to Arjuna the Bhagavad Gita and says, “I have already defeated all these armies.”

Emvatibe’s Inner Source of Inspiration. “It is the nature of the universe to offer diverse habitats so that a shoot from the smallest seed and the most fragile flower or butterfly can flourish and survive. This diversity and fragility derive from ecstasy. Even so, for the individual whose spirit is clear, protection is always near.”

Outer Aura. Emvatibe is extremely penetrating, subtle, and wise. His aura is gigantic. He immediately can sense in one moment everyone who is involved with you and everything influencing you.

The net effect is that Emvatibe builds your strength and independence. He assists you in making wise choices and developing clarity in action. Emvatibe’s point of view includes the view point of Saturn which is, “Everyone has the right to make their own choices and to learn from their own experience. Other people have the right, if they so choose, to abuse their power and to try to interfere with you .” Saturn monitors this situation and demonstrates though consequences that there is great price to be paid for such abuse. Saturn, however, only requires that these consequences occur at some unspecified point in time.

Emvatibe, by contrast, is an enforcer who makes those consequences happen here and now rather than further down the road. If your connection to Emvatibe is strong, he will put an immediate end to someone’s attempt to interfere with you. This is his divine commission and there is no limit on his authority to assist you in this regard. If someone has a lesson to learn about avoiding being malicious, then now is as a good a time to learn as any. Meditating with Emvatibe is itself a magical ritual in self-protection.

In the martial art of Aikido, you do not confront aggressive energy directly. You step out of its way while remaining yourself in harmony. The other individual, you could say, then falls down due to the imbalance in his own action. Similarly, when you embody Emvatibe’s aura in yourself, you are stepping out of the way of the aggressive energy while remaining in harmony with the laws of the universe. The light of your consciousness reveals the truth and, when exposed to the truth, the force of malicious action returns immediately to the individual who initiates it.

To put it another way, you are fully aware of energy, action, and intent, but you are in a formless state of consciousness. Within Emvatibe’s vibration, you possess no identity. There is no one who can be attacked. There is nothing to defend. There is nothing that can be threatened and so there is nothing to flee from or be afraid of.

There is only the truth of intention, decision, and action and the consequences which result. Under the law of the universe and the law of love, there is a time for change and change often involves destroying something so something new can arise. But if you seek to destroy prematurely without wisdom, then you are responsible for the consequences. You must make right what you have undone. And if you seek to destroy out of malicious intent--you know, greed, jealously, hatred, arrogance-- then you yourself shall be destroyed. You can not put it more simple than that.

Inner Aura. Now this auric vibration is something I have not run into before. Emvatibe has the ability to consider the essence of an individual’s spirit, thoughts, feelings, and life force quite independent of the circumstances under which the individual has developed or the situation he is currently in. There is some omnipresent capacity here. He is able to hold another’s consciousness within his own mind. And then--this is the interesting part--he can seal that individual’s aura so that nothing evil or malicious can get out. That is, the capacity to do something negative within the external world is stopped. The negativity remains within the individual like poison locked in a bottle.

How does he do this? Remember that the lunar zone suspends space and time. In it, there is a joining of desire and satisfaction, purpose and fulfillment, intention and completion. When Emvatible’s energy is present, everything in the outer world becomes a mirror reflecting back to the individual’s that individual’s intentions.

If you seek to bless, then the world blesses you. If you seek to harm, then that harm is right there in your face. Like other spirits of the moon, the lunar vibration is like a world of dreams in which you experience what you desire and wish for as if it is a hundred per cent real and already complete. Emvatibe’s specialty is turning the world into a dream where the stalker is stalked and the perpetrator falls victim to his own machinations.

Note. The next day after this meditation/evocation of Emvatibe, I was involved in a role I sometimes play as a public advocate. I advocate a change, small or large, in some public institution--the court system, the legislature, the school system, some organization, etc. In this case, I was only asking for a very small change in someone’s behavior. But I think in part due to Emvatibe’s influence, I became like a mirror--anyone who opposed me saw their worst fear staring back at them. Other individuals--complete strangers--were incredibly friendly, as if I were their best friend.

I would have to say that Emvatibe’s influence is incredibly intense. It helps to have a lot of experience and to know what you are doing, that is, you need the earthzone’s practical and down to earth understanding of how to solve problems prior to working with the lunar zone. In this case, I had these things so the intensity of his vibration was able to move through me without causing undo stress to myself. Still, I would recommend not using a spirit like this for specific actions unless your purpose is very clear and you have no other remedies.

Four Undines I Have Known

Note: The following undines are all described with a paragraph or two in Franz Bardon’s book, The Practice of Magical Evocation. Though I find it easy to meet other undines and do so occasionally, the eight undines Bardon talks about are highly skilled magicians in their own right. And for those who find it helpful Bardon also gives the sigils or magical symbols for each of them.

The Undine Amue

Amue is relaxed, gentle, calm, and tranquil. She is a healer. Like many undines, she is very sensitive. If you spend time with her, she will get you feeling more relaxed, calm, and serene. She balances your aura and strengthens your vitality. If Amue were a human being, she would be an ideal kind of friend if you desire a friend who is quiet, gentle, warm, considerate, and always supportive.

Amue specializes in fish, reefs, small bays and so forth. If you are interested in fish, she has a lot of knowledge about them. Again, her understanding of the health of the sea extends to the health of a human being.

As I begin thinking about Amue, I naturally project my mind so I feel a part of the oceans of the world, the ice caps, the waves on the high seas, the winds, the currents, and so forth. To visit a professor at a university, you have to drive over to the campus, park your car, and walk up to his room and knock on the door. To visit an undine, you place your mind into the realm of the oceans and start to feel and perceive as an undine.

It has become easy for me to see Amue when I look for her. As I see her, I immediately feel a magnetic, attractive force connecting to the two of us together. In the presence and under the influence of her aura, I sense currents moving through the ocean. And I feel we are about fifty feet beneath the surface. The water around us feels like it is alive, a living being in its own right infused with a heart, spirit, love, and beauty.

I take her hands, her cool, soft, and tender hands, and my whole body feels like it is vibrating. It is like she is singing a song within me. A common experience I have with undines is the sense of my identity dissolving as if, like an undine, I am part of the ocean. There is no need to locate my consciousness in one location or in the shape of my body. My consciousness is part of the water and my senses are the changes occurring in the ocean around me.

Amue knows I am only visiting her briefly so she says, “Why don’t you come play with me? Spend a few days next time.” She slips an image into my mind which takes hold and I find myself holding her left hand with right hand as the two of us float on our backs on the surface far out at sea. There is not need to think, to worry, or to contemplate anything. An undine is a way of being. It is being a part of the sea and allowing the waters of the earth to flow through your soul and to renew your life.

I really like Amue. She is kind, warm-hearted, and gentle. As I imagine Amue back within the sea and that I am again here in this room, I feel amazingly calm and there is also a feeling of still being underwater. It is a little as if I had spent the day sailing or playing in the waves but I am not tired. Instead, there is that feeling you have when you have spent time with a dear friend--everything feels right.

The Undine Istiphul

If the word ‘enchantment’ has any meaning, if it is possible to captivate another’s attention and to hold the individual spell-bound within a dream, then in this regard Istiphul is a master. In her presence, the magnetic force and powers of attraction are staggering. She is like the incarnation on earth of a spirit from Venus, a sphere which Bardon describes as “having an oscillation crazed with love, which puts any sphere magician into a state of happiness that may be compared with an ecstasy of love...”

Istiphul’s incredible gift is to search and discover the deepest desires within your heart. She exists to awaken these desires and to bring them fully into your consciousness. She explores them with you, celebrates them, and then reassures you that each and every one of them shall be fulfilled. Istiphul is a spirit of love who discovers the secrets of your soul. In this area, she has great skill.

Due to her incredibly femininity, Istiphul brings out in you the powers that enable you to fulfill your dreams and to satisfy your desires. Because she is so yin, receptive, and beautiful, she enables you to transform into another person than you are now. In this sense, Istiphul puts you in touch with the future, with the person you will one day be. Her body and soul embody your dreams.

This ability to transform another is a feminine gift. It is something wonderful and it is pure magick. Love is a space where opposites unite. Istiphul celebrates oneness, union, and the mysteries of love. It is perhaps dangerous to work with Istiphul if you should, for some reason, underestimate, disrespect or do not fully celebrate the mystery and power of love.

I have described elsewhere Istiphul’s eyes, her smile, her touch, and her kiss. Let me say here that though she is sweet, tender, young, and innocent, her ecstasy is something else--it amplifies to an unknown power. Though I have Istiphul for decades, when I gaze upon even now, she takes my breath away. I have to focus on my breathing to slow down my heartbeat. She speaks from a place within myself where desires and dreams dance together full of power and sacred light.

The Undine Osipeh

Entering Osipeh’s presence as I am doing now is like entering a wild party and a celebration. There is music and dancing, warm, heart-filled love, and a feeling of coming home. In her greeting, there are smiles and laughter, teasing and flirting, and tender affection. She is both caring and seductive, friend and lover, a force of nature and a sensitive, empathic partner.

For Osipeh, physical attraction contains wonder and happiness, contentment and pleasure. The moon attracts the waters of the earth toward herself. The tides rise and fall. The winds drive the waves a hundred or a thousand miles. The ocean currents circulate as temperature and seasons change. Underneath, a force drives them all. Osipeh can bring this force to bear on a human being. Osipeh amplifies the natural forces of attraction.

Osipeh is playful. She shifts her mood to match your own. She is stimulating, spontaneous, and inviting. She is constantly daring you to taste the wine within her soul.

If Marilyn Monroe had a twin sister who happened to be an undine, this sister would be Osipeh. The woman and the undine both possess a telepathic ability to communicate the gratification of desire, vulnerability, sensual arousal, and an invitation to give and to receive love. And this mode of communication is ahead of our time because within it both genders are left feeling satisfied.

The Undine Isaphil

The undines Istiphul and Isaphil are like two great archetypes. Istiphul searches out your deepest needs and then she, in her own body and soul, become a means for you to enter a future where these needs are fulfilled. Isaphil, by contrast, embodies not so much the ecstasy of love and union as much as the peace of the earth. For Isaphil, you need to come to grips with the past in order to attain inner peace and harmony with the universe.

In regard to peace, Isaphil is like a divine remedy for that ancient loneliness which haunts the human soul. Something has been missing from human experience for countless eons and ages and no religion on earth has yet been quite able to fill the gap. Oh, the Christians talk about a peace which passes all understanding but you would be hard pressed to find even a handful of Christians on this planet who have ever tasted such peace within their souls.

And Buddhists enter a state of mind where the light is infinite. I have seen it. But the peace of the natural world is not a part of it. Nature is not within their dreams. Perhaps the Taoists come closest. But the Taoists do not meditate enough on the seas which embrace the world. They do not know a peace which encompasses the seas and the moon also.

And so with Isaphil, when you enter her presence, you encounter a peace which encompasses civilizations from the far past and the far future as well. Time is suspended. All of human experience on this planet is encircled within her soul in a space of tranquility and serenity. And so, by the light of her aura, by the tenderness of her heart, by the sensuality of her touch, you taste the essence--the height, the depth, and the breadth of what it is to be alive and to feel whole.

The advantage of the peace which Isaphil’s possesses is that with it desires are not so pressing and needs are not so demanding. You do what you need to do without distraction. Every source of life, light, and inspiration is found here within yourself. And so, a kindness and a love which overflows from your heart.

4/6/2000. Thurs.

Apilki the sylph who is mentioned in Bardon’s, The Practice of Magical Evocation. I spent about fifteen minutes attuning myself to his aura, seeking to gain his sense of the winds, weather, and atmosphere. There is a very physical sensation of clouds and moisture in the air, temperature and pressure.

Next I meditated on Romasara, 8 degrees Leo in the earthzone. With Romasara, there is this wonderful sense of being joined to the sacred life force, surrounded and penetrated by it. Life force is like the presence of God manifesting in a physical way. It is renewing, reviving, healing, and rejuvenating.

As I meditate, I feel I am surrounded by this brilliant white light of the sun which gradually fills my whole body as I breathe. I ask Romasara to comment on my practice with him. I have a sense of him entering my body and then I gain something of his perception regarding life force. It is as if the energy in the air around me over a vast space is perfectly available for me to draw upon according to my needs.

For Romasara, we are surrounded by all the energy you could want or imagine. All you need to do is to sense it, identify with it, and then it is yours. It becomes a part of your own body in that it is free to circulate in and through you.

Cigila., 28 degrees Pisces.

Note. There are different opinions on which color to use for Pisces since some of Bardon’s students say to use blue instead of red.

I briefly imagine the sky and the earth are an empty space filled with bright red light, the color Bardon suggests for the sigils of Pisces earthzone spirits. The red in this case relates to the sacred life force within everything that exists.

I really enjoy Cigila. He is one of my favorite spirits. He embodies a perfection of compassion, love, and caring combined with immense mental power. He combines as well the presence of Divine Providence and a realistic perspective on what needs to be accomplished within history to alleviate suffering and to further evolution. What is so nice about Cigila is that meditating within his aura helps place me in the right frame of mind so that I sense the inner strength I need and the right attitude to get on with my work.

There is nothing mystical about Cigila. He is loving and also very practical. The whole purpose of his commission in assisting magicians is to enable them to get the job done--whatever course of service they have embarked upon. Finish it. Complete it so you are ready to move on to something else. On the other hand, Cigila likes to upgrade your concentration and magical power so that you are capable of doing any number of different things or of taking charge of variety of different tasks.

Zalones, 27 degrees Pisces.

This is the first time I have concentrated on Zalones for more than a few minutes. Cigila I have been working with since 1979. As with Cigila, I briefly visualize a vast space around myself filled with bright, red light. I then concentrate on Zalones reproducing his aura in the space around myself.

I notice right away the difference between him and other spirits such as Chimirgu, 23 degrees Aquarius. Like Chimirgu, Zalones reflects within himself the energies of the solar system--the four elements, the planets, the signs of the zodiac, and the ten sephiroth. For example, it is easy to sense the power of the Aries warrior within him which is perfectly balanced with the Libra emphasis on love and relationships. The same with all the other opposite energies. He is a master who internalizes the macrocosm within himself.

Chimirgu, by contrast, likes to present the one vibration underlying everything in the solar system. To attain to that cosmic awareness, he shows individuals how to penetrate with their awareness into the different energies of life. Zalones does something similar but Zalones is more interested in presenting the power within different things. Chimirgu could, for example, radiate the essence of the Venus sphere which is divine love expressed as beauty, harmony, art, and relationships. Zalones, by contrast, is far more interested in taking that intense, ecstatic vibration of Venusian love and accomplishing something with it here on earth.

In other words, Zalones, like Cigila, is interested in embodying the divine virtues and the powers of the solar system in order to be of service. Like Cigila, he is invested in the Pisces agenda of insuring that the sacred energies of life draw all beings into a state of oneness and union. Cigila combines an immense mental force with the love of Divine Providence in order to serve. Zalones emphasis is slightly different. His aura says in effect, “Here are the powers within our solar system. They are dazzling, wonderful, majestic, and mysterious. Draw upon them freely and embody them completely within yourself in order to accomplish your sacred mission.”

Cigila utilizes a fabulous divine empathy in order to penetrate, encompass, and resolve every conflict. Zalones’ skill is more in the area of evocation. He enables you to accumulate a fantastic amount of energy with the precise qualities and vibration that you need to accomplish something. Meditating with Cigila is a great to insure that you have the proper love and power of concentration in your aura. Meditating with Zalones is a great way to alter your aura so it becomes like a mirror reflecting within itself the powers of the solar system so that they are dynamically present and completely balanced.

Emvitabe, the head of the 4th moon mansion.

This spirit specializes in magical protection. With Emvitabe, I visualize a vast sphere around myself of lunar, silvery white light. I then project my mind into the sphere of the moon and into Emvitabe’s presence. He has an intensely protective aura. It is a very reassuring energy that you are and will be protected from various kinds of tricks and attacks both in the physical world and on the inner planes.

Zhevekiyev, the head of the 24th moon mansion.

This spirit creates a sensation of the masculine and feminine being joined within yourself. Where sex can produce a child, this union produces a rejuvenating and enlivening energy. It creates a “golden child” which is an elixir of life heightening and refining the vitality in your physical and astral bodies.

Last year when I worked with this spirit, I found his energy to be overpowering. It did not feel right for me to work with at the time. Now it feels very comfortable. It is easy to relax into it and feel that combination of magnetic and electric fluids combine so as to both soothe and stimulate the vitality in my body.

Years ago, I had studied with some teachers who seek to teach students how to identify and unite the electric and magnetic, masculine and feminine energies in their bodies in order to increase health and vitality. These teachers often focus on the physical life force and skip working with the astral equivalents. Another teacher I worked with, a Swami, did find within himself his feminine opposite on the astral plane. But in his case, there was not a complete union of his masculine and feminine astral energies. There were both present but not really joined. By contrast, Zhevekiyev’s aura is a profound union of the opposite energies on both the etheric and astral levels. It is a real pleasure to work with him.

4/3/2000, Mon. Apilki the Sylph, #26 of the Elemental Beings Listed by Bardon.

Reason. Of the eight sylphs, perhaps Apilki is the most relevant for assisting Romasara’s sense of identifying with the sea of vitality in the air element around oneself.

Apilki has a great sense of the movement of the winds and of the pressure differences over space which cause the winds to move. Romasara’s sense of vitality relates a lot to simply identifying one’s consciousness with the sea of vitality in the air element so that the body is forgotten. In the process, breathing in the lungs feels identical to the movement of winds through the sky. This enlarges the astral and etheric bodies as well as the mental body so that it is then much easier for life force to enter and move freely through one’s body and aura. And it gives a great connection to the etheric energy in nature which is the source of the pranayama.
